R&J Building Services is a family run builder based in Lower Stondon, Bedfordshire. We build house extensions, loft conversions, garage conversions and provide home refurbishments for people in Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and the surrounding areas. Absolutely brilliant. I asked Jon at R&J to quote for removing my old conservatory and replace with a wooden open topped pergola and new patio. From the start Jon was interested in my plans and spent time understanding exactly what the aim of the project was, asking questions about materials, purpose and design. The finished result and pergola is exactly what I'd hoped for, the attention to detail and workmanship is superb and the whole team were amazing, friendly and cheerful, throughout. Jon and R&J were first recommended to me by a friend and neighbour when I was looking at getting a new kitchen and utility room fitted. That work was completed to the the highest standards by them in 2022. Still more than happy with it! I also asked them to replace my old garage flat roof with a timber one which they also did an amazing job on in 2024. I would certainly recommend R&J, I've already asked them to quote for several upcoming projects I have.
From our very first meeting with Jon, his calming, reassuring, and deeply knowledgeable nature made it clear he was the right builder for our project. We undertook a rear extension, a new office, a full kitchen renovation, underfloor heating, new flooring, and a new patio (a substantial six month build) and Jon’s expertise was evident throughout.
Jon’s high standards are reflected in his team, who were a pleasure to have in our home. They care about the work as if it were their own property, treating both us and our home with the utmost respect every single day.
As with any major project, challenges and delays cropped up, but Jon was quick to suggest practical, well thought out solutions and ensured they were executed without fuss. The whole experience felt organised, collaborative, and genuinely supported.
Outside of the core building works, one of the most helpful aspects of working with Jon was his itemised quoting and invoicing. It made it incredibly easy for us to track progress, understand each stage of the build, and stay fully in control of our spend. That level of transparency gave us real confidence from day one.

What we value alongside the consistent very high quality of their work; is their approach to design and solution finding plus that attention to atheistic detail which that we so aligned making home improvements. Jon “gets it” when it comes to how changes will be lived in and the lines of sight etc. What we also value is that all trades are covered by the team from insulating and replacing a flat roof to plumbing and heating solutions to hard standing work in gardens. Nothing that can’t be undertaken and one singular point of contact managing all aspects of the project has been a revelation. Clean, super punctual, respectful, great work ethos and just lovely people. 100% trusted with our property if away.
